Abstract: Effects of Microcystin-LR (MC-LR) produced by Microcystis aeruginosa (BGST 243) on the activity and pigment composition of photosynthetic apparatus were studied in Blue Green Sinapis Test. MC-LR induced the inhibition of growth of test seedlings. The cotyledons of 8 days old seedlings were smaller in size and chlorotic compared to control plants. Our experiments showed that the concentration of all the main photosynthetic pigment components per dry weight decreased in the cyanotoxin treated cotyledons. When the carotenoid composition was analysed, significant increases in the amount of lutein and P carotene expressed per total chlorophyll were found The decreases in potential and actual photochemical efficiency of cotyledons and vitality index indicated functional disturbances of photosynthetic apparatus induced by MC-LR.
