Ubell Candidate of Tecbnical Sciences The maps exhibited at the Helsinki Congress of the International Association of Scientific Hydrology reflected the importance attributed all over the World to the mapping of ground waters, nevertheless reflected at the same time the numerous deficiencies existing in the methods of mapping. The determination of the position in spaco of the various water bearing layers, of their physical and chemical properties. of water movements taking place therein and of the quantitative characteristics of their waterhousehold, as well as the graphical representation of the above factors may be regarded as the final aim of this work. Considering the present situation, ttco trends may be distinguished. In preparing generál hydrogeological maps, the aim is usually to include as mucii information as possible on a single slieet. These maps do not indicate the position in space of the water bearing
