rich surfaces, on the copperplates—according to the requirements of technicality and size—almost with baroque luxuriance he ornaments every inch, giving way to the indulgance of his droll and playful mood, ironic inclination. As to the colours in the linotypes and copperplates, Imre SZILÁGYI uses them with good taste, moderately, reservedly, harmonizing them with his intentions to compose or decompose, to enlarge or diminish, to bring something closer or further, to set connections and mutualities into new order. And he does all this in a complete harmony of artistic approach and forming, with solemnity, inexhaustible artistic inventiveness, with an attitude of keeping closeness and distance at the same time, with sympathy and sprightliness, with great love and artistic creative care. Imre SZILÁGYI was born in Debrecen in 1942. He has been exhibiting his works since 1961. He started his studies in Medgyessy Studio of Debrecen and graduated from the Teachers Training College in Eger. After graduating he worked as a teacher in Hajdúnánás; and has been teaching in the Kindergarten Teachers Training College of Hajdúböszörmény since 1973. In 1975 he became member of the Arts Foundation (Művészeti Alap). The most important exhibitions organized just for him were as follows: in Debrecen, Balassagyarmat, Pápa, Veszprém, Budapest, Vásárosna- mény, Hajdúnánás, Berettyóújfalu, Vác, Gyula, Hajdúszoboszló, Tiszafüred, Nádudvar, etc. He had a life-work exhibition in Hajdúböszörmény in 1988. His works can often been seen in Hungarian national exhibitions as well. He was on study-tours in Poland, the Soviet Union (Lithuania), Italy, GDR, Austria and Switzerland and took part in the work of Polish, Soviet and Est German artist colonies where he could also exhibit his works. Some of his works can be seen in Déri Museum (Debrecen), Gallery „Hajdúsági” (Hajdúböszörmény), in the museums of Kazimierz, Potsdam and Tokyo and in private collections too. In 1980 and 1985 he was rewarded with Káplár Commemorative Medal, in 1984 with the grand prize of the Natinal Summer Exhibition in Debrecen, in 1986 with Medgyessy Commemorative Plaquette. DR.
