f The closing of the river bed was completed after 22 hours work on 2 September, 1972. The construction of the rock-dike was followed by the pulling down of the provisional bridge. The establishment of the entire project was carried out under the direction of the National Water Authority. The responsibilities of the builder for the entire project were taken care of by the National Water Investment Agency and the Tisza Power Stations Enterprise. The general consultant was the Institute for Hydraulic Planning. In the construction work several general contractors and more than one hundred subcontractors participated. The general con­tractors were the Hydrotechnical Construction Enterprise, the Ganz-MAVAG Locomotive-, Wagon- and Machine Factory, the Central Tisza District Water Authority (Szolnok), the North-Hun- gary District Water Authority (Miskolc), the Trans-Tisza District Water Authority (Debrecen), The Brigde Construction Enterprise, the Heves-County State Building Enterprise and the Pipe Mounting and Fitting Enterprise. The French firm Neyrpic-Alstrhom co-operated with Ganz- MAVAG in the manufacturing of the tubular turbines and of the hydrogenerators. The GDR firm ORSTA-Hydraulic VEB Kombinat, Leipzig delivered the electro-oil hydraulic hoists and control equipment for the steel gate structures. The investment costs in Stage I of the barrage and its related major projects (retention level at El. 87,50 m A. O. D.) amounted to round 3 thousand million Ft. The investment costs of Stage II is 2 thousand million Ft on the 1972 price level (retention level at El. 89,00 m A. O. D.).
