László Kineses described how to care for and preserve illustrations and this talk was followed by a visit to the Hungarian Museum of Photography. 31 July 1998: 30th National Conference of the MKE in Salgótarján, 30 July-1 August: The HKSZ participated by preparing and arranging a Section meeting on co-operation between library services on behalf of Hungarians abroad and also on behalf of the ethnic minorities in Hungary. 6 August 1999: 31 st National Conference of the MKE in Pápa, 5-7 August: The HKSZ and the Bibiliographic Section organised a joint programme about authors, editors, and book publishers and the library. At the Conference four members of the HKSZ (Miklós Bényei, Péter Biczák, Gyula Mándli and Gyula Varga-Sabján) were awarded the MKE Emlékérem (the bronze medal and certificate of the Association of Hungarian Librarians). 11 August 2000: 32nd National Conference of the MKE in Esztergom, 10-12 August: Erzsébet Gáncs gave a paper on the HKSZ Users' Survey in Town and County Libraries in April 2000. The programme was organised by the HKSZ, the Bibliographic Section and the Association of Public Libraries of the MKE. 2001: 33rd National Conference of the MKE in Nyíregyháza, 9-11 August: The HKSZ was not involved in presenting papers at any of the sessions. 8-10 August 2002: 34th National Conference of the MKE in Budapest: The HKSZ was not involved in presenting papers at any of the sessions. However Erzsébet Gáncs was awarded the MKE Emlékérem (the bronze medal and certificate of the Association of Hungarian Librarians). 3.6. Regional meetings Regional meetings are usually initiated and organised by librarians working for a certain region or county. The HKSZ assists by underwriting some of the financial commitment for these meetings and by supporting the professional backup. The first regional meeting was organised in Szombathely on 31 May 1996. The subject was collection management, including the acquisition, the cataloguing and the use of local studies material. Another topic was the publication of local studies books and periodicals in Burgenland, Slovenia and Vas County. Mária Zsámpár demonstrated a new CD-Rom version of the local literature database of Vas County. 68
