3. The Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ). - 3.7. National Surveys. - 3.7.1. The user survey.
On 26 May 1999 a meeting was organised in Pest County in connection with the publication of Pest County local literature on CD-Rom, a new system of collecting press cuttings in Pest County and the work of the HKSZ. In Szeged the regional meeting, 30th September and 1st October 1999, discussed local studies work and the possibilities of co-operation between libraries in the plains of southern Hungary, in Yugoslavia and in Romania. 105 3.7. National Surveys The HKSZ has organised two national surveys: • A questionnaire asking users of local studies collections about the resource material and their impressions of the local studies service • An evaluation by the participants of the annual HKSZ Local Studies Conferences 3.7.1. The user survey A working party was set up in 1998. This group included members of the HKSZ and their partners, the Bibliographic Section of the Association of Hungarian Librarians, and its purpose was to conduct a user survey of local studies collections in public libraries. The members of the working party were: Miklós Bényei, Erzsébet Gáncs, Gyögy Gyuris, József Horváth, József Komlósi, Gyula Mándli, Judit Mennyei, Éva Nagy and László Tuba. To begin with, the group compiled a questionnaire to determine the subject areas of interest to those local studies librarians wishing to promote their collections to the public- the types of source material available, cataloguing practices and their relevance, the usefulness of indexes, the possible interests of the users and the demand put on the collections. This questionnaire was sent to all the public County Libraries and Town Libraries in Hungary. The results were collated and reported to a national meeting of the HKSZ and also published in the national journal, Könyv, könyvtár, könyvtáros On the 14 th July 1999 the working party considered the libraries which had taken part in this first questionnaire.
