3. The Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ). - 3.3. National Conferences organised by the HKSZ.

Once again the cultural tour was unique - the Group visited the Bódva Valley and Coburg Castle in Edelény. Another tradition was started with an exhibition of the craftwork of librarians - on this occasion, the embroideries of László Laki-Lukács and Imréné Müller. 5 th Conference of the Local Studies Group 92 : Kiskunhalas - Kalocsa, 15 17 July 1998 Because the 5 Conference was held on a split site, there were two main organisers - Gyula Varga-Sabján from Kiskunhalas Town Library, and Miklós Asbóth from Kalocsa Town Library. The theme of the Conference, the historic collections of Church Libraries, well suited the conference venues. This 5 th national Conference was organised in two towns, a good example of collaboration within the County. The first speaker, Jenő Gergely, gave a brief survey of the churches in Hungary. He was followed by Diana Dixon, who delivered a paper on Church libraries the British experience. Succeeding speakers covered the subject of bibliographies of church history (István Zombori), the cultural heritage of the Calvinist Church (Gábor Szabó) and the Lutheran Church (Lajos József Káposzta). On the second day, following the example of the lecture-tour begun at Miskolc, delegates visited the church collections in Kalocsa, where talks were given about these by István Boros and Andor Lakatos. The third day's programme featured Aurél Szakái and Etelka Horváth, who outlined their local studies work in Kiskunhalas. There was also the traditional exhibition by two librarians, Mária Kristóf and László Bakó, and an innovative tree-planting ceremony in the park close to the library. This Conference was the first occasion in the history of the HKSZ when a one minute silence was observed to mark the death of a member of the Group. Imre Mónus, the retired deputy director of Kisfaludy Károly County Library in Győr, died in 1998. The recent death of Penny Ward, of the UK Local Studies Group and a guest speaker at the 1997 Tata Conference, was also acknowledged by the delegates. 92 Helyismereti könyvtárosok V. országos tanácskozása : Kiskunhalas - Kalocsa : 1998. július 15-17. / [szerk.
