3. The Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ). - 3.3. National Conferences organised by the HKSZ.

2 nd Conference of the Local Studies Group™ Sopron, 26-28 July 1995 The HKSZ has always regarded the Vác Conference as its first conference, and, for this reason, the Sopron Conference is considered as the 2 nd Conference. This Conference was organised by Imréné Müller in Széchenyi István Town Library, Sopron. The topic was co-operation between service providers and the lecturers on the first afternoon were Ian Maxted, István Zombori, Gábor Kiss, and Éva Askercz. During the second day's programme the participants heard papers by Erzsébet Győri on the problems of collection policies, by Katalin Vas on the methods of collecting data and indexing in the local studies collection of the Katona József County Library in Kecskemét, and on films and local history by Jr. Sándor Sarkady. The afternoon programme was organised by the host County, and the speakers were László Tuba, Imréné Müller, Éva Turbuly and Lajos Gecsényi. On the third day, the two Sections - the Bibliographic and Local Studies Sections - met separately. This was the only occasion on which this happened because the conference delegates were interested in all the topics, not just in their own specialities. The programme of the Bibliographic Section featured lectures by Gáborné Korompai, Jolanta Miklós and Éva Tapolcai on manuscripts - saving, collecting, and indexing - and on the routines of a museum library. For the Local Studies Section the local speakers, Tibor Grüll, and József Horváth, informed their audience about the history of old books in Győr in the 16-17 th century, and Klára Dóka extolled the value of manuscript maps as local studies source material. The social events included visits to Nagycenk, Balf, Fertő-tó and Fertőrákos. In the evening there was a very successful showing of a film on Sopron in 19211956, organised by Jr. Sándor Sarkady. The success achieved by the co-ordinators of the Sopron Conference was an example for the hosts of succeeding conferences. It is the practice of the HKSZ Committee to invite the previous host organisers to preparatory conference meetings, so that they can advise on their experiences.
