3. The Local Studies Group of the Association of Hungarian Librarians (HKSZ). - 3.3. National Conferences organised by the HKSZ.
Key elements in the planning of the Conferences include finding the most relevant local studies theme, not only from the point of view of the delegates but also from the perspective of the host area, and discovering the best speakers. In achieving this, the Committee of the HKSZ has always been assisted by its counterpart, the members and officers of the Bibliographic Section. The suggestions of Miklós Bényei - a former chairman of the Bibliographic Sectionand Anikó Nagy have played an important role in the success of the Conferences. The annual Conference papers are published. To keep the members of the HKSZ informed, a newsletter MKE helyismereti tájékoztató has also been produced from 1996. The National HKSZ Conferences: a review 1 st Conference of the Local History Librarians 88 : Vác, 27-29 July 1994 The current issues in local studies librarianship constituted the main areas of discussion at this Conference, organised by László Kiss in the Pest County Library, Szentendre, and Gyula Mándli in Szob Library. The principal speaker was Erzsébet Győri who reviewed the work of the public library local studies departments in Hungary from the beginning of 1990. Miklós László Mezey spoke about the connection of Hungarians to their local history. Jenő Zágoni and András Benedek S., librarians at the National Library of Foreign Literature, reported on local studies work in eastern Transylvania and Ruthenia, and József Papp talked about the results of local studies work in Slovenia. On the second day of the Conference, Mária Zsámpár, Valéria Czink and József Komlósi lectured on the problems and advantages of using subject headings. Ferenc Bíró enlightened his audience on the pitfalls of AV material in local studies collections. Gyula Kertész gave a paper on the indexing of current local periodicals. On the third day Miklós Bényei advised the delegates of the value of collecting local documents based on the sources and on the problems of indexing. As part of the social programme the participants visited places of interest in the area around Vác and the Danube Bend. During these visits, there were several informal occasions during which they could share common practice and consider what was being discussed at the Conference. 88 Helytörténész könyvtárosok I. országos tanácskozása : Vác, 1994. július 27-29. / [szerk.
