The Hungárián Independent Partv.,Demands That the Leading Political Strata's Privileges Cease The re-formed Hungárián Independent Party has reeently issued a detailed mani- festo the main aim of which is to evaluate the last forty years, including the 1956 revolution. Thus it has annouced the establishment of a National Reconcili- tion and Reckoning Committee and has asked 14 well known altemative organisations and the Hungárián Socialist Workers Party to participate. The Committee plans to hold its forming session on April 29th at 10 am in the Jurta Theatre and wishes to deal with the following: (1) The investigation of political and other criminal cases conducted since 1945 within one year. (2) A historical, factual evaluation of the 1956 revolution and the pronouncement of October 23rd as a national holiday. (3) To declare the 301st plot of the New Public Cemetery a National Pantheon. (4) The "individual calling to account of those leaders whose activities harm the nation and an immediate cessation of their privileges and benefits which are immoral and burden the people (including an end to unreasonably high pensions)". (5) An investigation intő the right to dipose of property and other establishments owned or managed by former monolithic political organisations which were in power in the next three:months and their transference fór national use." The Hungárián Independent Party believes that the country was pushed intő the present crisis by the dictatorship of a narrow ruling strata and its anti-nationalist policy. This strata must be made responsible, renounce its social privileges and must give back to the nation its pecuniary advantages which were obtained immorally. The Independent Party's annoucement stresses that "We do nőt want reprisals or to con- duct criminal cases bút an honest calling to account .... in order to cleanse the system", as only then is it possible to sit at the nation's conference table with organisations who are committed to progress.
