The Hungárián Independence Party was forraed in 194.7 by Zoltán Pfeiffer who had resigned from the Small Holdéra Party. In the 1947 Parliaraentary elections the Party received 14% of the votes, bút in November Pfeiffer was forced to emigrate, his party was prohibitea by the Minister of the Interior and 49 of its MPs were deprived of their manöates. In February the Independence Party announced that it would re-form and in the meeting on Sunday in the Jurta Theatre they said that they will operate as a party in future. The participants elected a temporary 12 member leadership, the leader of which will be Tibor Homyák. On April 5th the temporary leadership issued an announcement which defines the objectives of the party as follows: "The party professes an evangelical morality to eliminate the recent morál crisis. It aims at social tolerance and collaboration so as to aid national reconciliation and attain both economic and political independence fór the nation. The focus of its activities will be the evaluation of the pást, esp- ecially the la3t forty years including the 1956 revolution, and the radical re-organisation of culture, education, society and public health. It advocates the establishment of a national militia and the setting up of workers councils. It does so on behalf of God, Gountry and Freedom and in the spirit of the Sacred Crown which symbolizes unity". In a declaration issued on April 6th the Hungárián Independence Party sent their greetings to Lech Walesa and the Solidarity Trade Union on the occasion of the conciusion of the Polish round table agreement. It says "Ve believe that this agreement will create the foundation fór the non-violent, democratic transformation of Poland". Tomorrow, on April 8th, the Alliance of Hungárián Political Prisoners will hold a one day conference in the Jurta Theatre entitled "You ask - I answer about 1956", the questions will be answered by Dr Ildikó Fay, Tibor Győri, Tibor Homyák, Sándor Nagy, József Ormándy, Tibor Rajna, Jenő Somogyi, János Virág and János Vizy, the debate will be led by Jenő Fónay. ■ 6 ^ ... ............................ __ ________.....
