The auction was sponsored by the Hungárián Fine Artists Society, organised by the independent Refugee Committee and held in the Workers Movement Museum in Buda Castle. On Saturday morning at 10 am the auction was opened by Pál Bodor, who vrites fór the paper Magyar Nemzet ("Hungárián Nation") under the name "Diurnus" and who settled in Hungary from Románia a few years ago. The májőrity of the art objects were paintings bút a great number of small sculptures, Transylvanian carvings and holograms were alsó sold. About 350 artists gave more than 800 objects to the auction and the Commission Department Store valued the works without payment. The venture was so successful that although it was initially planned to be a one day event it took piacé on Sunday as well, on both days lasting until 4 pm. The olympic Champion András Balczó was alsó ^ present, selling home-made jewelry at a separate table. The totál süni, after the artists had been refunded and VAT had been paid, was about one millión forints. Of this half vili be given to the Hungárián Fine Artists Society, which wants to help refugee artists from Románia, The other half will go to the Refugee Committee who wish primarily to ease the initial prohlems of new arrivals and of those who are sick, have many children or who are unable to find work in the thirty-thousand refugee population.
