The leaders of the first local branches to be formed organised a national conference with the old functionaries of the party in the Pilvax Cafe in Budapest. In the meeting which lasted from 10 am until 2 pm a temporary party leadership was elected and the following announcement was issued: "The Independent Small Holders, Farmers and Civil Party announced the continuance of its operation in its national conference on November 18th. In the meeting a temporary leadership was elected. The temporary leadership invites the party*s old members, followers, supporters and Hungárián society to participate in the nation saving work of the party and to reorganise local branches. The Independent Small Holders Party is preparing and publishing its manifesto taking intő account the change in social and political relations in Hungary. The party aims at national consensus and a true Hungárián historical compromise with all those who share its good intentions and wish to serve the nation and progress. Participants in the Independent Small Holders Party’s National Conference" Four local branches had already been formed before the conference in Szentendre, Győr, Gyöngyös and Ülles in County Csongrád. Primarily the party consists of the old small holders and their successors, entrepreneurs, artisans, shopkeepers and agricultural and co-operative workers bút it alsó counts on the participation of scientific, cultural and industrial workers. The Ulle's branch which was established last December and has about 200 members (led by the farmer János So's) announced its formation on January l$th in a letter to the Peoples Patriotic Front national centre. In a meeting on October 3rd they expressed their intention to solve social probléma in a democratic way and to co-operate with other political and economic organisations. The branch in Szentendre declared that they aimed to ease the country out of its present serious situation and to represent those members who wish fór democratic progress and fór greater representation fór the farmers. The branch in Győr wants to help the Hungárián nation develop by estab- lishing a proper and functional consensus, by eliminating the crisis symptoms which have appeared in a number of areas in economic and social life and by exposing the reason fór these crises. Over the next few days other local branches of the Small Holders Party are expected to appear in other towns.
