The final version of this vas adopted and a temporary leadership vas elected vhose mandate now runs out. More than fifty YDA groups operate nationally with about 2000 members. The political leadership is very hostile to the YDA: in the Party’s Central Committee session at the beginning of the month their activities vere condemned and those who were involved in commemorating the Brasov workers action on November 15th were beaten up by the police and abused as "fascist YDA members". Today the committee submitted a revised and shortened programme plán to the congress. This consists of an introductory section several pages long which drafts the basic principles of the YDA and an action programme. The question of whether social- ism vas an objective came up in the debate. According to many speakers the definition of socialism has been discredited in Hungary. Others vanted to adopt the socialist ideas of István Bibo. They spoke of the YDA’s relationship with other democratic movements and many people proposed forming a democratic coalition; these questions have nőt been pút to the vote yet. The action programme vili be debated on this aftemoon, a previous analysis consisting of ten themes vas cancelled and problems in different areas such as the economy, education, policy reforms, social policy and the environment vili be dealt with by experts in separate YDA meetings in the Jurta Theatre on the first veekend of every month beginning in December. Tomorrow the congress vili probably decide if the YDA vili jóin the Hungárián Youth National Council which vili be formed at the end of next week. An election of the név committee vili alsó take piacé and a debate on the problems raised by the actions of recent weeks. Up until nov the Hungárián mass média has kept silent about the YDA congress bút today a Hungárián Television film crew came to the theatre to make a nevsreel. Today tvo leaders of the English Social Liberal Democratic Party and an Oxford scholar Zsolt Németh who belongs to the YDA published a report in London about the formation of the "YDA British Friendship Circle". Its aim is to follow events in Hungary and to take practical steps to support Hungárián democratic movements and to pút pressure on the British govemment to do the same.
