Rrossé 4/1988 (E) 8th January,1988 The Subotica Court Séta a Date fór Karoly Vicéi*3 Trial The Subotica High Court has scheduled a date fór the Senta inhabitant Karoly Vicéi's trial, he is presently in custody. They uish to hold the trial on the 27th-28th of January, Vicéi vas só-rested on November 5th and is accused of "destroying the peaceful co-existence of the national minorities and nations living in Yugoslavia", because according to the indictment he has often declared that the Hungarians in Vajdaság suffer diserimination. Vicéi vas sentenced in 1976 chaxged vith spreading hostile propaganda and served tvo years imprisonment sLfter trying to organise a Hungárián theatre vith a friend in Senta. Nov the charge of inciting national hatred is being reinforced by the prosecution vith the confessions of seven vitnesses. During the preliminary hearing held in December by the exsunining magistrate three of the vitnesses said that their con­fessions had been dictated to them in Senta Police Station. Tvo of the others mentionod that the detectives had recorded something different from vhat they had actually said. Vicéi’s friends are afraid that the authorities vish to close the case quickly and pass sentence as soon as possible vithout a thorough examination taking piacé. Ksíroly Vicéi has tvo lavyers: István Koncz from Kanjiza, vho is slIso a poet, and Srcfan Popovic from Belgrade. Popovi c$ asked fór the trisil to be postponed oving to his engELgements.
