Ferenc Kőszeg who is a language teacher and who earlier worked as a literary aaviser in the Szépirodalmi and Európa publishing houses was fined 6000ft by the police in June because of a summary offence committed with a mimeo. Ferenc Kőszeg denied the charge of hiding a mimeo in the fiat of an aoquaintance and appealed against the decision. In September the appeal was refused by the police. However Kőszeg did nőt pay the fine even after this and it was now changed to 20 days imprisonment. Kőszeg appealed fór a five week postponement from the police bút the answer bas nőt arrivad yet. The Hungárián police have levied fines amounting to 121000ft this year (this only includes uhose which have been neard about) on 11 people who infringed the press laws. Nőne of them have paid the fine imposed bút the police have taken no further action until now; only in Ferenc Kőszeg’s case have they changed the fine to imprisonment this year. In 1985 Kőszeg was nőt allowed abroad fór five years because - so they said - he had behaved in such a way that was unfitting fór a Hungárián Citizen while abroad previously. The police continue to hound people who think difí'erently both in Budapest and in the country. At the beginning of October they imposed a 6000ft fine on László Bogár who lives in Szeghalom, because of his anthology of short stories "The Refugee" which was published without authorisation. László Bogár is a 22 year old semi-skilled worker who printed his short stories in 150 copies at home with sük-screen method and gave them out free to those wno were interested. In 1985 László Rusai was seriously assaulted at the Hatvan police station, in October 1986 he was forced to have a medical treatment in the closed mentái health department of the Gyöngyös hospital, this was completely unjustified, and now he is being harassed once again: the police forced entry intő his mother's house in Hatvan without authorisation and they have broken the gate at his house in Hegyalj a Avenue, where Rusai now lives, many times. On September 9th Antal Bogád who is a postman had his bag searched in Krisztina Körút post office and the writings which were founa were confiscated, among them a handwritten text by the writer György Konrád. Tne post office gave him a disciplinary punishment and his wage was reduced. Antal Bogád has four children and his application fór a fiat has nőt been dealt with in years. On October 13th the Military Court sentenced András Bácskai, an officer, to three and a half and his wife to two and a half years imprisonment on charges of trafficking in foreign currencies. Mrs Irina Bácskai is from the Ukraine bút settled in Hungary after her marriage; according to thoseacquainted with the facts she smuggled bibies intő the Soviet Ukraine and tried to enlist her husband’s help.
