As from this morning electricity, gas, coal, firewood and other household fuels have risen in price by an average of 20%, flour, bread and bakery produce by an average of 19%, and tobacco goods by 20%. The cost of basic essentials, such as bread and coal, has risen far faster than average. This is already the third round of price increases in Hungary this year. However the majority of consumer goods are nőt among the so-called Central price regulation products, so that no announcements are made when their prices are raised. Pensions and several other welfare benefits have been increased by 50-100 forints monthly (approx 2-4%). It is an open secret that still further price rises are coming this year, and from the beginning of next year personal income tax and value added tax are being introduced. The latter will substantially raise prices.
