KroSié 69/87 /E/ 27th May, 1987 More Raids and Other Police Actions While on the one hand the first secretary of the Party Committee of Budapest, Karoly Grosz, known as one of the chief hardliners, stated in an interview in the Hungárián television that attention must be paid to the democratic opposition,because they want Socialism,too, on the other hand the political police of Budapest con- tinues its actions against the opposition. On the 26th of May, Tuesday, the fiat of József Talata, one of the editors of the samizdat-journal "Égtájak között", vas raided - fór the third time in this year - from 9 to llpm, then the police appeared at the piacé of Gyula Bartók, another editor of the joumal and continued the house- search renamed as "checking of premises" until 2am.At Bartók's the police succeeded in seizing a duplicating machine and about hundred copies of the prohibited study entitled "Tum-about and reform" compiled by 35 well-known Hungárián economists on behalf of the People's Patriotic Front. The organising of the "National Environmen- talist Association" may alsó well turn intő a police affair in the near future. The environmsntalists planning the foundation of the association assembled until now two times, on the 7th and 12th of May; a few days ago, however, dr Abrahám,chairman of the National Bureau fór the Protection of the Environment and Natúré, prohibited any further organising and meeting of the association. During the months pást the Ministry of Interior restricted the political oppo- sition's freedom to travel to an ever growing extent. Ferenc Kőszeg, István Orosz and Tibor Pákh has already been excluded from travelling abroad earlier, while the passport applications of Imre Mécs, Miklós Sulyok, Ottilia Solt and others have been refused. Now the philosopher János Kis had the passport denied to him; Kis had been invited by the "New School fór Social Research" of New York as a visiting lecturer.
