* 4/1S37 /3/ - 3 shaped by forces there: a political art. This alternative artistic course is associated with dictatorship to the extent to which it takes Qver the active humanist iaeals and organises them outside the system of institutions. /.../ At this point it joins Nietsche's principle of ?,living dangerously". /.../ It can live through all forms of the existential and legal persecution and the impossibility of perforniance. /.../ On the other hand, however, the persecuted humanist behaviour may rise to become a model. The reál conflict of the political artist /.../ takes piacé in his ovm conscience as dictatorships /.../ endeavour to awaken the sense of guiLt of the artist. /.../ It is from these inner and outer binds on his person and the daily battles of his conscience that an art in opposition to totalitarian cultures may be born. 5. 'That is thsn the "political art"? It has been proven that rebel is a valueless experiment, having an end in itself, if it strives only fór changing the art. In dictatorial regimes such an art can work fór the de-centralization and destruction of the institutionalized árts and the breaking up of the in- sidious censorship. Political art needs a reál and representative democracy instead of an illusory one constructed írom above. /.../ Political art can never become legal because it is the politics of the authorities which is its subject. /.../ It breaks up, amplifies and reflects the violence which the political art itself is sebjected to. The binds thus formed in the mutual interaction are now made operational - the circle is complete. The artist cannot do anything else bút expose his dramatic fate to reflect and to show an example of free and independent political actlon which is easy to camprehend and easy to follow. With this public-spirited behaviour it can help in spreading and creating positive political ideas and attitudes connected directly to fundamental social needs existing in dictatorships. It is at this point that the cruel artistic ideál of "living dangerously" will récéivé its ültimáte meaning and becomesacceptable. /.../ 15th January, 1987. IiNCOiMhU Árts Group
