Krossi 5/1987 /E/ 27th January, 1987 Hunaarian-Romanian Comtaon Declaration Today the World Federation of the Hungárián Freedomfighters Association in Great Britain and the British-Romanian Association held a common press conference and issued the following declaration: On bchalf of the World Federation of the Hungárián Frccdomfightcrs Association in Great Dritain and the British-Romanian Association, representing repcctively, the free Hungarians and Romanians in the United Kingdom, we make the following statement: We firmly accept that the proven injustices and atrocitics behind the írón Curtain havc been perpetrated by the communists and communist authorities. In particular in Románia, onc of the strictcst satrapics, persecutions and sufferings havc been inflictcd upon the indigenous majority of the population, as wcll as upon the Hungárián and other national minoritics. No politically mature and responsiblc Románián or Hungárián person or association or socicty or group would initiate, takc part or lend its name to any haté campaign directcd against cach other or against any other nationalities. The acceptance of this fact will pave the way fór better understanding between Romanians and Hungarians and other nationalities in Eastern and in Central Europe. We express our great anxicty concerning all and any violádon of humán rights and diserimination based on religion, political belief, nationality or social status of the victims. Consequcntly, we wish to take any appropriate action on bchalf of the pcrsccutcd, jointly and with other dcmocratic rcprcscntativcs of the Captive Nations. We are certain, that an understanding between our nations is the best and most effcctivc first step to combat communist dictatorships and Soviet imperialism and occupation. The pást should be left to impartial historians, working in free and calm circumstanccs, while the future should be left to the dccision of thosc who will live to sec the Iibcration of our countrics behind the írón Curtain.
