A Fazekas Gábor Iparos Olvasókör, voltaképpen nem oszlott fel, hanem 1945. április 15-én tartott közgyűlése kimondta az Ipartestülettel való egyesülést. Az olvasókör székháza, jogutódként szintén az Ipartestület használatába került.54 Az olvasókörök működésével kapcsolatban elmondható, ugyan művelődési céllal alakultak meg, de ezt a célkitűzésüket fokozatosan elvesztették, és helyette inkább a szórakoztatási igények kielégítésére törekedtek. Ezek a kártyázásban, biliárdozásban, tekében, a bálok tartásában nyilvánultak meg. Egyre kevesebb lett a taglétszám, sokan nem tudták fizetni a tagdíjakat, így kevesebb lett a bevétel is. The History of Reading Circles in Hajdúböszörmény between the World Wars Gabriella Vékonyné Kovács There were four reading circles in Hajdúböszörmény that were founded and were active in the period between the two world wars. On the one hand, these reading circles performed the task of educating the people; on the other hand, they substituted political organizations as well. Reading circles may be divided into two main groups: one organized people dealing with farming, while those in the other aimed at the furtherance of the class of tradesmen. The reading circles operated on the basis of by-laws adopted at their statutory meetings. The by-laws preserved the major facts on the reading circle, including their name, address, official language, and seal. In addition, the by-laws also formulated the objectives of the reading circle, contained provisions on the assets of the association, the admission of members, their rights and obligations, and regulated the organizational structure. The aim of the reading circles was the raising of the public’s level of education, as well as providing their entertainment opportunities. For this purpose, libraries were set up, people’s education and free lectures were held. Some reading circles formed self- education and self-training groups, such as theatrical groups.
