mivel nem hívők, hogy poltikai lapot sikerrel lehetne kezelni olly provinciális helyen, mint Debrecen. Sokkal cél- és korszerűbb lenne ott egy komolyan tudományos közlöny megalapítása . ..”46

Bár az elmarasztalás sommás és túlzó, mégis felvetődik a kérdés: kik lehettek volna e politikai-gazdasági hírlap munkatársai? Nehezen képzelhető el, hogy Sillye Gábor csak Pozsonyból, illetve Pest-Budáról kívánta a szerzőket toborozni. Nyilván felmérte a helyi lehetőségeket is. A debreceniek szép számmal voltak jelen a reformkori magyar sajtóban, rendszeresen publikáltak az irodalmi, tudományos, egyházi és politikai lapokban; így például Balásházy János, Lugossy József, Szűts István, Péczely József, Telegdi Kovács László, Kiss Lajos, Emődy Dániel, Sárváry Ferenc, Könyves Tóth Mihály stb.; komoly publicista erényeket villantott meg a Debreczen—Nagyváradi Értesítő egy-két cikkében a vaskereskedő Rádl József is. Azaz a gazdasági és köznevelési profilt is tudatosan vállaló szerkesztő bizton számíthatott volna néhány debreceni munkatársra. Esetleg gondolt a szatmáriakra és bihariakra (Pap Endre, Riskó Ignác, Beöthy Ödön, Lukács György stb.) is.

A kormányszervek határozatának debreceni fogadtatására már nincs adatunk. Feltételezhető, hogy mind Sillye Gábor, mind Nánásy Gábor elvesztette a kedvét és hitét, ezért nem éltek az udvar és a kormányszék ajánlatával, nem dolgozták át a tervezetet. Nyilván végiggondolták azt is, hogy egy szűkített profilú, kizárólag a gazdasággal foglalkozó lapnak aligha lenne sikere, hiszen ekkor már a politikai sajtó volt az igazán népszerű.

THE PLANS FOR A JURNAL CALLED ALFÖLD IN DEBRECEN IN 1846

The attempt at founding the journal was rept in mystery for a long time, we can find only two references to it. The paper outlines the content elements and the failure of the plan on the basis of archival documents and contemporary news items. The idea of founding a daily paper of country-wide interest originated with a lewyer in Pozsony, Gábor Sillye — who was born in Hajdúböszörmény and for a while studied in Debrecen — and he was to have been the editor, too. The publication was undertaken by the Debrecen senator, Gábor Nánásy. It was him who presented the application to the king, which was forwarded from the court to the council of the governor-general in Buda. The High Censorial Office of the council objected to the intended political and pedagogical character of the journal and proposed to reject the request and that the applicants should prepare a new plan, which would limit the profile of the Alföld to economical subjects. On the basis of all these the ruer jflid not adhere to the publication of the paper. Before the rejective decision arrived to the town council of Debrecen in the December of 1846, some papers had mentioned the preparations. András Martinkó supposed that Sándor Petőfi travelled to Debrecen in November, 1846 in order to have discussions concerning the Alföld. We cannot preclude it altogether, but according to our sources its possibility is very slight.
