Abstract
represented by guest actors and actresses like Mrs Déry, Róza Széppataki, Mrs Kántor, Anna Engelhardt, Dávid Kilényi, Károly Megyeri, Endre Latabár, Károly Szuper and Márton Lendvay. It's worth mentioning the juvenilia, amateur dramatic performances of the 'Wise man of our Homeland', Ferenc Deák in 1819. The classics of flourishing Hungarian dramatic literature by this time also appeared and worked in the town for shorter or longer periods. We have to mention József Katona, Sándor Kisfaludy, Károly Kisfaludy, Imre Szigeti, Ede Szigligeti and Pál Kovács who had local connections, too and six of his plays were performed in Győr. The two associations supporting acting were determinant at the time. These were the Theatre Building Society (1833) and the Hungarian Actor Insurance Company (1840). The first regional journals issued in the last years of the period had an important role in the cultural and theatre life of Győr: the journal published in German between 1844 and 1846 (titled: Vaterland), then by its turn the one in Hungarian (titled: Hazánk) up to 1848. We can say that theatrical profession that had existed before rooted in Győr for ever and it also meant the way of forming and developing national acting despite the dramatic and tragic effects of the year of 1849. The study analyzing the important events (titled: Sources and rarities from the history of Győr theatrical profession from the beginning of the 17 th century up to 1849) processes this cultural period This period is also remarkable from the point of view of national history. More precisely it works up the history of Győr theatre based on contemporary sources, selections, adjusting notes and rich documentary, reports and illustrations. That is the person showing an interest can read mostly 150-200 year old texts. The editors hope that not only the inhabitants of Győr can get valuable information. They also hope that they can highlight numerous so far unknown local and national events as well and draw attention to connections.
