the total thickness. The width of plica is greater than half of the total width. The shallow fold develops gradually at half length on the pedicle valve while on the brachial valve it is observed anteriorly only. The fold edges are quite rounded. There are some growth lines on the surface of shell. Internal characters: There were no adequate specimens available for serial sectioning due to the paucity of the material. Remarks: The distinction from Liospiriferina obtusa seems to be reasonable on the basis of outline, the size of beak, the angle between the lateral margins and the relative position of the two umbones. For a more precise identification and description more and better preserved specimens would be needed. The specimens illustrated by Parona (1893) and Sacchi Vialli and Cantaluppi (1967) are in good agreement with our form. Distribution: Similar forms were described only from the Southern Alps (Piemonte region). Liospiriferina angulata (OPPEL, 1861) (Pl. Material: 19 pedicle valves. Dimensions (mm): Specimen M.91.15. (Text-fig. 16) length: 12.0, width: 14.4, thickness: 9.2. Description - External characters: Small to medium-sized shell, triangular in outline. The width of pedicle valve is slightly greater than its length. The thickness is smaller than the other two values. The angle between the lateral margins is about 80°. The pedicle valve is convex with a prominent umbo. The beak is large and straight. The ventral interarea is equilateral, triangular in outline, plain or slightly concave. There are Text-fig. 16 - Drawing of Liospiriferina angulata
