two strong beak ridges on the pedicle valve. There is a fold on the pedicle valve running from the umbo to the commissures. The fold edges are sharp. The depth of fold is very variable. Internal characters: The internal character remains unknown because only incomplete specimens of this species were found, so there was no possibility for serial sectioning. Remarks: Liospiriferina angulata is interpreted here to include forms with large and straight beak only. L. obtusa - a closely related form - differs in having a curved beak. Already Oppel (1861) in his original description raised this problem and he separated L. obtusa while emphasizing their close relationship. Fucini (1895) figured only one specimen of which the beak is absent, so the specimen is undeterminable. Böse and Schlosser's (1900) specimen is unambiguously a L. obtusa. The umbo of Gemmellaro's (1874) specimen is less straight and there is no sulcus, so this specimen is more similar to L. darwini. Distribution: According to Aimeras (1964), L. angulata is Sinemurian in age, its occurrence in the Pliensbachian is uncertain. Beside the Bakony Mountains, this species is known from the Eastern Alps (Hierlatz), the Southern Alps (Sospirolo, Piemonte) and Sicily. 1874 Spiriferina sicula n.sp. - Gemmellaro: p. 55, pi. 10, fig. 3. 1886 Spiriferina sicula GEMMELLARO - Rothpietz: p. 161, pi. 13, figs. 7-8. 1891 Spiriferina sicula GEMMELLARO - Di Stefano: p. 159, pl. 1, figs. 1-3. 71930 Spiriferina sicula GEMMELLARO - De Gregorio: p. 44, pi. 13, figs. 22-23. The ventral interarea is low but relatively wide. The lateral commissures are arched towards Liospiriferina sicula (GEMMELLARO, 1874) (Pl. Ill, Fig. 2; Text-fig. 17) Text-fig. 17 - Drawing of Liospiriferina sicula Description - External characters: Medium-sized shell, subpentagonal in outline. The antero-lateral corners are slightly rounded. The width is significantly greater than the length, the thickness is about half of the length. The angle between the lateral margins is about 130°. Biconvex form, the valves are equally convex. The maximum width is situated at the posterior third, the maximum convexity is at half of the length. The shell surface is damaged at the regions of both umbones, so their interpretation is difficult. The umbo of
