Material: 34 pedicle valves. Dimensions (mm): Specimen M.91.12. (Text-fig. 13) length: 18.7, width: 17.2, thickness: 8.2 (pedicle valve only). Description - External characters: Mediumsized shell, circular in outline. The length is greater than the width while the thickness is significantly smaller than the length. The angle between the lateral margins is about 85°. The pedicle valve is strongly convex. The maximum width is situated at half of the length. The beak is large and strongly curved. The ventral interarea is wide but not too high. The width of fe f : fi 8\ u - Drawing of delthyrium is very small compared to the width Liospiriferina alpina . . J _j , * of interarea. The lateral commissures are straight. The anterior commissure is straight or slightly sulcate. The sulcus is wide but low. There are some growth lines on the shell surface. Internal characters: The internal character remains unknown, because only incomplete specimens of this species were found, so there was no possibility for serial sectioning. Remarks: The examined species is very similar to Liospiriferina obtusa, differing mainly by the lack of a sulcus on the pedicle valve. It is also similar to L. rostrata and L. brevirostris but its beak is less curved. Furthermore, L. rostrata is uniplicate while the length and width of L. brevirostris are nearly equivalent in contrast with L. alpina, at which the length generally is greater. Distribution: According to Aimeras (1964), L. alpina is Sinemurian and Pliensbachian in age. Vörös (1982) recorded its occurrence from the Davoei to Mar-
