FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK Volume 67 2006 pp. 109-113. Description of Stenoloba yenminia tamdaoensis ssp. n. from Northern Vietnam (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) N.-C. NGUYEN & K.-T. PARK Center for Insect Systematics, Kangwon National University, Chunchon, 200-701, Korea E-mail: cispa@kangwon.ac.kr Abstract - Stenoloba yenminia tamdaoensis ssp. n. is described from North Vietnam, based on specimens collected in Tarn Dao National Park. The formerly unknown female of the species is described and illustrated. With 6 figures. Key words - Stenoloba, systematics, Bryophilinae, new subspecies, Vietnam. INTRODUCTION The genus Stenoloba STAUDINGER, 1892, belonging to the subfamily Bryophilinae, is distributed mostly in the Oriental region and partially in the Manchurian subregion, comprising some 50 species. In Vietnam 18 species were recently reported by KONONENKO & RONKAY (2000, 2001) and RONKAY (2001) while only seven species are known in Japan (SUGI 1982a, b) and six species in Korea (KONONENKO etal. 1998). The genus is superficially characterized by the following characteristics: small to medium sized species; irons with rounded but conspicuous prominence; forewing often with parallel costal and inner margins, outer margin more or less rounded, tornai angle rounded, with greenish tint or markings, sometimes with reddish or pale orange between cell and inner margin, whitish or orange in tornai area, antemedian line often white; hindwing usually darkened, broader than forewing, outer margin rounded. The configuration of the genitalia of both sexes is quite variable, and the different species-groups may have often conspicuously different genital capsula and armature of vesica, as well as the shape, size and sclerotisation of antrum and ductus bursae.
