O. Merkl szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 66. (Budapest, 2005)

BLÖTE (1927), in the series 'Fauna van Nederland', compared P. phragmitis (BOHEMAN, 1847) and P. phragmitis var. lugens (HORVÁTH, 1897) and discussed the colouration of wings and the fore part of the body. HAUPT (1935), in the fourth volume of the series 'Die Tierwelt Mitteleuropas' reported the colouration and the pattern of pronotum of P. phragmitis forma lugens. As its distribution, Hungary and Transcaucasia were mentioned. In his work on the fauna of Jemen, ZACHVATKIN (1935) mentioned the taxon as P. lugens for the first time, provisionally considering it as a distinct species with the remark that further investigations would be necessary to revise the genus. No description and no illustrations were given in that paper. In METCALF's (1967) 'General Catalogue of the Homoptera', the name P. phragmitis var. lugens was used. In the Palaearctic checklist of NAST (1972), the taxon was considered as a synonym of P. phragmitis under the name P. phragmitis lugens. In his work on the European Auchenorrhyncha, NAST (1987) did not mention the taxon at all. MATERIALS AND METHODS Specimens were collected in 2003 and 2004 in the Lake Naplás Nature Reserve (Naplás-tó Természetvédelmi Terület), in Budapest, by the use of pan traps and sweep-netting on patches of reed. Altogether 42 male and 57 female specimens of Paralimnus phragmitis (30 males and 40 females) and P. lugens (12 males and 17 females) were caught. For further investigation the abdomens of the specimens were macerated in 90 °C solution of 10% KOH. Paralimnus lugens (HORVÁTH, 1897), stat. n. Material examined - Lectotype (female of HORVÁTH' s material): labelled "Szeged, Valloy 33", "typus" (label with red frame), "Lectotypus Deltocephalus phragmitis var. lugens Horv. des. S. Koczor 2005" (label with red frame), "Paralimnus lugens Horv. det. S. Koczor 2005". Paralectotype (female of HORVÁTH' s material): labelled "Caucas Baku, Schneider", "formosus Boh. var. Steini Fieb.", "Phragmitis Boh. var. lugens Horv., "Paralectotypus Deltocephalus phragmitis var. lugens Horv. des. S. Koczor 2005" (label with red frame). Paralectotype incomplete, abdomen missing. Further specimens: 12 males and 17 females "Magyarország, Budapest, Naplás tó", "2003. VI. 13.-X.18." and "2004.IX.10.-X.L", "leg. Koczor S." The types and non-type specimens are deposited in the Rhynchota Collection of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM), Budapest. Redescription - Body length (from top of vertex to tip of fore wings): 4.35^4.75 mm (males), 4.55^t.90 mm (females). Vertex obtuse-angled, slightly rounded. On anterior part of vertex and upper part of frons a narrow black stripe leads from eye to eye.
