Revision of the taxonomic status of Paralimnus phragmitis var. lugens (Horváth, 1897) (Auchenorrhyncha: Cicadellidae) S. KOCZOR H-l 134 Budapest, Dózsa György út 126, I/4a, Hungary E-mail: sakocz.or@freemail.hu Abstract - Co-cxisting specimens of Paralimnus phragmitis (BOHEMAN, 1847) and Paralimnus phragmitis var. lugens (HORVÁTH, 1897) were collected at the Lake Naplás Nature Reserve (Budapest, Hungary). Their genitalia were compared, and several differences were found. As a result of the comparison, P. lugens is regarded as a distinct species. Lectotype is designated for Deltocephalus phragmitis var. lugens HORVÁTH, 1897. With 12 figures. Key words - Auchenorrhyncha, Cicadellidae, Paralimnus phragmitis, Paralimnus lugens, taxonomic status. INTRODUCTION Deltocephalus phragmitis var. lugens was described by HORVÁTH ( 1897a) on the basis of two female specimens from Hungary and Transcaucasia, respectively. In the original description, the body colouration and the pattern of the pronotum were indicated as characteristic features. In his comprehensive work on the Hungarian fauna of "Hemiptera", HORVÁTH (1897b) listed the variety. It also was included in the catalogue of Palaearctic Homoptera by PUTON (1899). MATSTJMURA (1902) erected the genus Paralimnus with the description of a new species and transferred European Deltocephalus species to the new genus, therefore, the taxon was cited in the new combination Paralimnus phragmitis var. lugens. HÜEBER (1904), informing of its presence in Germany, used the original combination Deltocephalus phragmitis var. lugens. In the catalogues of Palaearctic Homoptera by OSHANIN (1908, 1912), the taxon appears as Paralimnus phragmitis var. lugens again.
