Key words: Taphaeus, description, taxonomic distinction, checklist INTRODUCTION This is the first report of the occurrence of the braconid diospiline genus Taphaeus in the Australian Region (or in the Notogaea). Up to now the worldwide number of the registered Taphaeus species is five, they are distributed in the Palaearctic (3 species), in the Nearctic (1 species) and in the Australian Region (1 species). Subsequently a checklist of the Taphaeus species is presented with the indication of their distribution (see also Belokobylskij 1990, Marsh 1979, Shenefelt 1970): Australian Region 77. robiginosus sp. n. - Australia: New South Wales Nearctic Region 77. polydrusi (Gahan, 1916) (Diospilus) - USA Palaearctic Region 77. affinis Wesmael, 1835 - Europe 77. hiator (Thunberg, 1822) {Ichneumon) - Palaearctic Region T. rufocephalus (Telenga, 1950) (Diospilus) - Kazakhstan, Russia: Altai Mts
