ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LXII 2001 pp. 293-303 New morphological and faunistic records of Hungarian Pipunculidae (Diptera) M. Földvári and M. Kozánek New morphological and faunistic records of Hungarian Pipunculidae (Diptera) — The so far unknown male of Pipunculus lichtwardti and the unknown female of P. omissinervis are described here for the first time with drawings of genitalia. One genus and 40 species are listed with catching data as new to the Hungarian fauna. Key words: Pipunculidae, Pipunculus, faunistics, description, Hungary. INTRODUCTION Pipunculidae are small, inconspicuous flies closely related to hoverflies (Syrphidae), parasitoids of larvae of Homoptera. The first published Hungarian data are those by Thalhammer (1900) a list of Hungarian flies including Pipunculidae. This is unreliable, since he was not a specialist and almost nothing is available of his collection. The majority of the work on the Hungarian members of the family has been done by Aczél (1938, 1939a, 19396, 1939c, 1940, 1944, 1948). After he left the country during the 2nd World War the pipunculid collection had been stored under bad conditions, and it has been almost completely destroyed by Anthrenus before it was incorporated again into the collections of the Hungarian Natural History Museum (HNHM). The unreliability of some records by Aczél is due to the fact that no voucher specimens survived. The recent investigation lists all species which have not yet been reported from Hungary and those whose faunistic status has so far been doubtful. Identification of the whole collection was made by MK (SAS, Bratislava, Slovakia) during 1992. The specimens have been checked by MF between 1997 and 2000 except for the genera Pipunculus and Eudorylas. Apart from the revised collection this work contains faunistic data of the project "Large blank spots in the Diptera fauna of Hungary" (OTKAT30242, 1999-2002). All specimens caught in 1999 by L. Papp or J. Majer are results of this survey. The numbers after the catching data indicate the total amount of specimens in HNHM at hand including specimens caught outside the present Hungary (but within the Carpathian Basin).
