Cleptes splendidus (Fabricius, 1794) Ichneumon splendidus Fabricius, 1794: 457 (1 cT). Holotype, cT: Italy (Copenhagen). Ichneumon splendens Fabricius, 1798: 229 (â). Cleptes splendens: Wesmael, 1839: 169 (synonym of semiauratus Linné, 1761); Kimsey and Bohart, 1991: 64 (= semiauratus L.; invalid emendation of splendidus Fabricius, 1794). Cleptes consimilis Buysson, 1887: 198 (2 6). Lectotype (cT) (desig. Móczár, 1997a: 35): France: Vernet (Paris); syn. nov. Specimen examined: 1 â. Italy: "splendidus" with Fabricius's writing, "Holotype Cleptes splendidus (Fabricius) 1794 Peeters and v. Achterberg '91", red label (not published), 1 S (Copenhagen). The holotype of Cleptes splendidus proved to be identical with the lecto- and paralectotype of Cleptes consimilis both in sculpture and in colour. Consequently, the name Cleptes consimilis is a junior synonym of C. splendidus; cf. Móczár (1997a: 35), etc. Linsenmaier (1959: 10) published Cleptes splendens (Fabricius, 1804) with the note "fragliche Name als ev. zutreffend angenommen", later (1968: 5; 1969: 346). Those specimens seem to belong to Cleptes s. str. subgenus in the "semiauratus" species group. Cleptes morawitzi group Cleptes morawitzi Radoszkowski, 1877 Cleptes morawitzi Radoszkowski, 1877: 6 (not 1 as Móczár, 1997: 39) (9 â). Lectotype, 9 (desig. Móczár, 1997a: 39): Uzbekistan: Tashkent (Berlin). Cleptes canadensis Kimsey, 1987. Figs 7-10. 7: Cleptes speciosus, male genitalia; 8: C. purpuratus, head, view in front, female; 9: C. blaisdelli, pronotum, male; 10: C. alienus, lower face, female (Fig 7: original; Figs 8-10: after Kimsey)
