Niedbala. Remarks: The new species is well characterised by the thick and strong interlamellar and notogastral setae, by the short sensillus and mainly firstly by the minute ad, and ad

On this basis it is an ally of the type species of this genus (Notophthiracarus australis Ramsay, 1966) and to the "australis" species group [TV. acideatus Niedbala, 1988, N. maculatus (Trägardh, 1931), N. sicilicomus (Hammer, 1962)]. The new species is distinguish from these by the minute lamellar setae (much longer in the related species) and the clearly bifurcate setae d on femur I (simple in the related species). Figs 7-9.
