S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 57. (Budapest, 1996)
29 (26) Lateral border of pronotum broad (its broadest part much broader than elytral border). 30 (35) Body oval; lateral margins roundly arched at the middle. 31 (34) Discal punctuation of elytra relatively sparse and coarse; intervals between punctures larger than punctures themselves. 32 (33) Elytral disc smooth among punctures (Hydroporus ater, H. foveolatus, H. fuscipennis, H. limbatus, H. neuter, H. ponticus and H. pubescens) "ater" species-group 33 (32) Elytral disc finely reticulated among punctures (Hydroporus nigrita, H. rufifrons and H. zimmermanni) "rufifrons" species-group 34 (31) Discal punctuation of elytra dense and fine; intervals between punctures at most as large as punctures themselves (Hydroporus marginatus) "marginatus" species-group 35 (30) Body oblong; lateral margins plainly arched at the middle (Hydroporus cantabricus, H. ferrugineus, H. incertus and H. memnonius) "memnonius" species-group 36 (25) Metacoxal processes obliquely truncate, not emarginate apically; common posterior margin of processes projecting medially Hydroporidius Guignot, 1949 37 (24) Metacoxal processes distinctly emarginate apically; common posterior margin of processes bisinuate, angularly projecting medially Sternoporus Falkenström, 1930 38 (3) Last segment of labial palpi deeply excised at tip*. 39 (40) Pronotum without a submarginal, longitudinally impressed stria at both sides. Pronotal and elytral surface alutaceous, without reticulation Scarodytes Des Gozis, 1914 40 (39) Pronotum with a submarginal, longitudinally impressed stria at both sides. Pronotal and elytral surface distinctly reticulate Graptodytes Seidlitz, 1887 41 (2) Clypeus arched, regularly rounded anteriorly — Laccornini Wolfe et Roughley, 1990 Laccornis Des Gozis, 1914 42 (1) Pronotum with a longitudinally impressed (sometimes obsolete) latero-basal stria at both sides . Apex of metacoxal processes (in lateral view) merging into abdominal plane by a slope — Bidessini Shaip, 1882. 43 (48) Elytra with a longitudinally impressed discal stria each. 44 (45) Head without transverse cervical line Hydroglyphus Motschulsky, 1853 45 (44) Head with transverse cervical line. This group might be named as Siettitiini Smrz, 1982 (type genus Siettitia Abeille de Perrin, 1904). I have considered this family-group name as a junior subjective synonym of Hydroporini (Hydroporides Aubé, 1836). The species having no such striae at all (and other ones with epipleura distinctly excavated at the base, with one-segmented parameres, etc.) should probably be removed from this tribe. Bidessini is obviously a polyphyletic group needing reclassification.
