The number of species known from our country is 655 (see Table 1), of which 11 species are represented by several subspecies: Carabus (Cancellocarabus) semistriatus (6), C. (Carabus) violaceus (3), C. (Eutelocarabus) arcensis (2), C. (Eutelocarabus) ulrichii (3), C. (Hadrocarabus) problematicus (2), C (Morphocarabus) scheidleri (9), C. (Morphocarabus) zawadzkii (2), C. (Orinocarabus) linnaei (2), C. (Procrustes) coriaceus (4), C. (Tomocarabus) convexus (3), C. (Trachycarabus) scabriusculus (2). Table 1. Either the authenticity of the voucher specimens is questionable or they are not available at all (names in square brackets). These species may be listed in two groups. The first group includes those species whose occurrence in Hungary seems probable. [Haliplidius confinis (Stephens, 1828)] Haliplinus brevis (Stephens, 1828) [Haliplinus wehnckei (Gerhardt, 1877)] [Acatodes fuscipennis (Paykull, 1798)] [Gabinectes didymus (Olivier, 1795)] Potamonectes elegáns (Panzer, 1794) Hydroporus marginatus (Duftschmid, 1805) Gyrinus dorsalis Gyllenhal, 1808 The second group includes those species whose occurrence in Hungary seems improbable.
