FOLIA E N T O M O L O G I C A HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK LUI 1992 p. 5-7 A new genus and a new species of Staphylinidae from Hungary (Coleoptera) By s L. Adám (Received June 15, 1992) A new genus and a new species of Staphylinidae from Hungary (Coleoptera). - Tolypotheca emese gen. et sp. n. is described from Hungary. Tolypotheca gen. n. Resembling to some extent of Platyola species. Head barely narrowing posteriorly. Eyes relatively large and weakly prominent. Antennae 11-segmented. Longer hairs of antennae fine and inconspicuous. Maxillary palpi 4-segmented, labial palpi 3-segmented. Temples bordered over their whole length. Posterior angles of pronotum entirely rounded. Inclined lateral margin of pronotum not visible at lateral aspect. Abdomen somewhat narrowing posteriorly. Abdominal tergites III and IV with transversal impression at base. Legs moderately long. Tarsal formula: 4, 5, 5. Tarsomeres not lobed. Type species: Tolypotheca emese sp. n. (present designation). In general appearance the species of this new genus differs from Platyola species in having the dark coloration {Platyola species are pale, rufoflavate). The eyes of Tolypotheca emese are relatively large and weakly prominent; the longer hairs of the antennae are fine and inconspicuous; the posterior angles of the pronotum are entirely rounded. The eyes of Platyola species are comparatively small and flat; the longer hairs of the antennae are rough and conspicuous; the posterior angles of the pronotum are obtusely rounded. Tolypotheca emese has a transversal impression both on the abdominal tergites III and IV, Platyola species have one on the abdominal tergite III only. Tolypotheca emese sp. n. Similar to Platyola austriaca Scheerpeltz, 1959. Body somewhat flattened, finely and isodiametrically reticulated, weakly shining, with short, faint hairs; pitch-black in colour, antennae (particularly four basal segments), mouthparts and legs (particularly knees, tibiae and tarsi) paler, reddish or yellowish brown. Head rounded quadrangular, finely and densely reticulated; punctuation indistinct. Eyes relatively large, weakly convex, as long as temple. Temples bordered over their whole length. Antennae moderately short, widening toward apex. Antenna! segments
