ones confluent with irregular puncturation before apex, apical and lateral edges finely margin ed, lateral margins well visible throughout. Interspaces moderately flat, shining with small scattered punctures, the extreme with a longitudinal row of coarse punctures on middle. Surface of elytral epipleura smooth, shining, covered with some moderately deep and large punctures. Abdomen moderately widened postariorly to the 5th (visible) tergite in a nearly straight line and after suddenly narrowed to apex. Surface of tergites before apical margin narrowly smooth, elsewhere covered with fine coriaceous ground-sculpture and among with large and shallow punctures, which, however, clearly visible on the 5th and 6th tergites. Aedoeagus: Figs 6-8. Length: 3.5 mm. I received from the MOTSCHULSKY' s Collection 2 <? specimens mounted on the same transparent strip, labelled as type. I hereby designate the 1st (N°l) specimen as the lectotype, which is left on the strip, its aedoeagus is near to the right side of its elytral apex, embedded in euparal drop. Labelled: "Tiflis" handwriting on red label; "Zonoptilus pennifer mihi Georgia" handwriting on white label, framed with thick and thin black lines; 1. Lectotypus 6 1 Zonoptilus pennifer Motschulsky det. Dr. Tóth L. 1987 handwriting on white red fram ed label; 2. prope Zonoptilus sp. n. S sine aedoeagus! det. Dr. Tóth L. 1987 handwriting on white label. The type and the 2nd specimen are deposited in the Zoological Museum, University of Moscow. Remarks on the 2nd(N°2) specimen: darker than N°l, head, pronotum and abdomen shining black, elytra reddish-brown, the common triangular mark on base hardly visible, antenna brown, only the 2 first segments reddish, more slender, segments elongated, the last segment twice longer than broad. Pronotum longer (28:26), elytra a little shorter (29:31) than the type specimen's, pronotum only a little shorter than elytra (28:29), anterior angles placed more back, sides a little more narrowed posteriorly. I disected it, but could not find its aedoeagus. On the base of external features I presume that it is a different species. It is very interesting, that HOCHHUTH's (1862) description of C. (Z. ) pennifer Motschulsky fits this specimen very well in spite of all the descriptions of other authors. HOCHHUTH (1862) clearly reported, that he had seen only one specimen from the MOTSCHULSKY's collection, so I had to suppose, that the 2 specimens were mounted onto the same transparent strip only after 1862. Regarding the specimens of our Museum's collection from the Carpathian Basin, I established that they belong to the following two species: Coproph ilus (Coproph ilus) striatulus (Fabricius, 1792) - Azuga leg.
