Remarks: This species is readily distinguishable from the described congeners by the following combination of characters: pale brownish colour, smooth preapical area of elytra and the very reduced elytral vestiture. Casnonidea demetrida sp. n. (Figs 40, 48) Dorsal surface reddish brown, often with humeral part of elytra blackish; this dark colouration extending to middle of elytra; ventral surface reddish brown, metasternum sometimes blackish; antennae brownish, somewhat darker toward apex; legs reddish brown; distal half of femora and proximal half of tibiae blackish (much more expressed on fore and middle legs). Length: 7.5-9.0 mm. 3. Head a little broader than pronotum; with 3 small round pits between eyes; EI= 11: 16; vertex weakly swollen, longitudinal furrow indistinct; antennae rather slender; segment length ratios: 9: 4: 8: 9: 10: 10: 11: 11: 11: 11: 17. Pronotum a little longer than broad, widest in anterior 1/4; surface impunctate, shining, largely glabrous but with a few setae in anterior angles. Elytra distinctly flattened; only punctural rows I and X reaching apex, so elytra with a smooth preapical area; striai punctures moderately coarse, contiguous; in-j tervals flat; paired intervals entirely glabrous; unpaired intervals with setigerous punctures scattered throughout whole length; interval I with 14, III with 16, V with 17, VII with 12, IX with 13, lateral margin with 19 setigerous punctures; setae black, fine, rather long; elytral apex simply rounded. Legs with pubescence fine, rather long, semierect. Last abdominal sternite simply rounded. Aedeagus: Fig. 40. Habitus: Fig. 48. g. Pits between eyes much smaller; middle pit totally indistinct; EI= 10: 14; length ratios of antennái segments VIII to XI: 10: 11: 10: 15. Holotype, 8, labelled as follows: Papua New Guinea, Wau, 19.
