S. Mahunka szerk.: Folia Entomologica Hungarica 49. (Budapest, 1988)
Holotype, Ó 1 , labelled as follows: "Dobodura, Papua, N.G. Mar-July, 1944 Darlington". It is deposited in MCZC. i Paratype. Western Province: Kiunga, 28-30. VII. 1969 [NGK-U.3.], J. Balogh (1 o_, HNHM). Remarks: The extremely narrow interocular distance makes this species easily distinguishable. The male holotype from Dobodura (Northern Province) has all body parts intact, though the elytral vestiture has largely been worn down. The female paratype lacks the left middle and hind legs as well as all but left basal 4 antennái segments, while the elytral vestiture is almost intact. Casnonidea caudata sp. n. (Figs 46, 47) Head, pronotum, scutellum and ventral surface reddish; elytra black with metallic greenish-bluish sheen; antennae and legs black, segments I and II of antennae as well as femoral base reddish. Length: 11.2 mm. Ç. Head a little narrower than pronotum; with 2 small punctures between eyes; EI= 17: 17; vertex strongly swollen, with well-developed longitudinal furrow; antennae rather stout; segment length ratios: 11:5:11:13:13:13:14:14:15:13:22. Pronotum weakly transverse, widest at base; surface glabrous, impunctate, shining. Elytra with only punctural rows I and X reaching apex, so elytra with a smooth preapical area; rows very weakly impressed; striai punctures minute, subcontiguous ; intervals broad and flat; paired intervals entirely glabrous; unpaired intervals with a few scattered setigerous punctures; interval I with 8, III with 5, V with 6, VII with 6, IX with 6, lateral margin with 11 setigerous punctures; setae black, short; elytral apex bicuspidate, i.e. elytra having an outer subrectangular and an inner rounded angle (Fig. 46). Legs with hairs short, sparse, semierect. Last abdominal sternite with a process directed upwards (Fig. 47). S. Unknown. Holotype, p, labelled as follows: "NEW GUINEA (NE) Baiyer River Sanctuary 1-5. DC. 1969"; "(No. NGB-U. 24J leg. Dr. J. Balogh". It is deposited in HNHM. Remarks: Though known by the sole female specimen, Casnonidea caudata is clearly distinguished from all other described congeners by its bicuspidate elytral apex and by having a process on the last abdominal sternite. In other features it much resembles C. semi- violacea Pic. Casnonidea pallens sp. n. (Figs 39, 44) Body pale chestnut in colour; elytra sometimes with weak violaceous sheen, mainly in basal half or in humeral part. Length: 8.2-10.0 mm. <?. Head not broader than pronotum; with 2 flat punctures between eyes (sometimes confluent and forming a transversal furrow); EI= 15: 15; antennae rather slender; segment length ratios: 10: 5: 10: 10: 11: 10: 10: 10:9:9: 29. Pronotum as long as or a little longer than broad, widest in anterior 1/4, base of same width; surface entirely glabrous, impunctate, shining. Elytra with only punctural rows I and X reaching apex, so elytra with a smooth preapical area; striai punctures moderately coarse, contiguous; intervals flat; paired intervals entirely glabrous; unpaired intervals with vestiture extremely reduced; interval I with 1 subbasal, III with 1 subbasal and 2 preapical, V without, VII with 2 subbasal, IX with 2 preapical, lateral margin without setigerous punctures; setae dark, fine, inconspicuous; elytral apex simply rounded; weakly caudate in dorsolateral aspect. Legs with pubescence reduced; femora glabrous; tibiae with fine, decumbent hairs along inner edge. Last abdominal sternite simply rounded. Aedeagus: Fig. 39. Habitus: Fig. 44. o.. Vertex a little more swollen; EI= 13: 15; length ratios of antennái segments VIII to XI: 9:11: 10: 22. Holotype, S, labelled as follows: "N.| Guinea: NE Bulolo, 700 m 26. XI. 1969"; "J. et M. Sedlacek Collectors BISHOP MUSEUM", It is deposited in BPBM. Paratypes (total 60 specimens), Morobe Province: labelled as holotype (4 #<?, 4 PP, BPBM; 1Î, 1 p. HNHM ex BPBM); Bulolo, 700 m (1 S, SBCB); id., 6. XI. 1969, JS (3 &S, . 1 o_, BPBM; 1 S, HNHM ex BPBM); id., 1130 m, 17. IX. 1969, J. et M. Sedlacek (1 S, BPBM);
