FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLVI. 1 1985 p. 5-22 Additional notes on the bumblebee fauna of North Korea (Hymenoptera, Apidae) * By M. ITO (Received December 10, 1984) Abstract: The bumblebee collection from North Korea is taxonomically examined. A total of 16 forms, 15 Bombus and 1 Psithyrus, are recorded, of which four Bombus species are new to Korea. The male of B. koreanus (Skorikov) is redescribed in comparison with three allied species. Distribution map is given for each species. The faunal similarity between northeastern mountains of North Korea and Kamtchatka is emphasized. Recently the bumblebee fauna of North Korea was fairly clarified by SAKAGAMI (1975) who studied the specimens collected by the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Korea in 1971 (PAPP and HORVATOVICH 1972). In this paper the additional materials collected by the same museum are studied together with some specimens deposited in the Entomological Laboratory, Kyushu University, Before going further, I would like to express my cordial gratitude to Dr. Jenő PAPP, Hungarian Natural History Museum (Budapest), who gave me the opportunity to study the valuable materials; Prof. YOSHIHIRO HÍRASHIMA, Entomological Laboratory, Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University (Fukuoka) for his generous permission to examine additional specimens in his Laboratory; Prof. SHOICHI F. SAKAGAMI, Institute of Low Temperature Science, Hokkaido University (Sapporo) for his valuable advices and critical reading through the manuscript. Explanations The style in the species enumeration basically follows SAKAGAMI (op. cit.) in order to facilitate comparisons. 1. The subgeneric system follows RICHARDS (1968). 2. The forms unrecorded by SAKAGAMI, which are new (2 forms) or authentically new (2 forms) to Korea, are shown with a single asterisk, and the following two items are mentioned for them: synonymic list, which involves only the original description and a few important references and hair coat colour. 3. The species names recorded by SAKAGAMI but not by me are also cited. * Zoological Collectings by the Hungarian Natural History Museum in Korea, No. 68.
