hardly exposed (Fig. 35), directed dorsad slightly inclining posteriad; lamella on the upturned basal area weak, with serration poorly developed (Fig. 39), Gonostylus (= lacinia): Width of apical exposed area seen dorsally rather wide; laterosubapical contour seen dorsally smoothly in curved (Fig. 43); lateroapical margin narrowly ridged; subapical depression of dorsal surface relatively weak; subapical angulation mild, inner apical projection moderate in both length and width; apical contour seen dorsally smoothly curved; apical longer spike produced long above, with tip not strongly curved (Fig. 46); apical process seen dorsally not inclining dorsad (Fig. 51). Spatha: Anterior tip strongly and sharply produced, margin apically blackened, flection on subapical surface sharp and weakly darkened; posterior projection narrow and long. Penis valve (= sagitta): Outer contour seen dorsally, basally swollen laterad (Fig. 43); teeth of ventral serration relatively small, many, relatively distinct and uniform in size; lateroapical serration relatively well exposed seen dorsally (Figs 44-55). Figs 27-34. Male metasomal sternum VII (above) and VIII (below) of four Megabombus species Hair Coloration: Head black; vertex medially yellow, sometimes admixed with a few black hairs; laterally intermixed with yellow hairs; frons above antennái sockets with pale yellow plumose hairs; supraclypeal area as in frons above but with less black hairs. Mesosoma ochre yellow; dorsum with dirty tint; pleura pale ochre, gradually paler below; behind the base of hind wing with yellow and black hairs intermixed. Metasoma ochreous yellow, medially with sparse admixture of black hairs; Tg black, basally narrowly ochre with sparse to fair admixture of black hairs; apical margin with subtle to fairly distinct whitish ciliation; Tg black except pale yellowish ciliation; T 4 pale ochre, basally with subtle to considerable admixture of black hairs; Tg as in T^ but with less black hairs, or medially with admixture of black hairs in variable amount; Tg variable, entirely pale ochre to entirely black; when intermixed, fair amount of black hairs occur mediolongitudinally and apically; T^ entirely black or with black and yellowish hairs intermixed in variable amount; metasomal venter entirely or predominantly pale yellow. Legs pale yellow with sparse admixture of black hairs; tibiae predominantly black, longer corbicular hairs with lightened tips; tarsi black. Specific distribution: Korean Peninsula. Although this is the unique Bombus species endemic to the peninsula, its occurrence in southern Manchuria is not precluded. This is the unique Megabombus species exhibiting the colour pattern black and red tailed (T 4
