and Tg red to orange) in female. This pattern is widespread in the Old World represented by at least 20 species belonging to 11 out of 26 Old or Holarctic subgenera or, 23 species of 12 subgenera if the pattern, "black with legs and apical half of metasoma reddish" is included. On the other hand, it is noteworthy that this pattern is represented by only two species, B. (Fraternobombus) brachycephalus Handlirsh and B. (Fervidobombus) diligens Smith, in the New World (MICHENER 1971-1973), none of which is distributed in N. America north of Mexico. Comparison with three Far-Eastern Megabombus species (Table 1) demonstrates that this species is closest to yezoensis, followed by consobrinus, while remote from czerskii . Bombus (Diversobombus) ussurensis Radoszkowski Loc. No. 2: 1 w; No. 5: 1 w; No. 8: 1 w; No. 10: 1 w; No. 11: 4 ww; Fig. 15. This species was most abundant in the collection studied by SAKAGAMI. Although less numerous in the present collection, it is apparently one of the commonest species in Korea. The occurrence in SE was first confirmed. Specific distribution: NE China (Manchuria), Korea, Mountains in Honshu (Japan) (SAKAGAMI op. cit.). Bombus (Tricornibombus) tricornis Radoszkowski Recorded by SAKAGAMI from Kum-gan-san (SE), Fig. 13. Specific distribution: NE China (Manchuria), Korea, Ussuri (TKALCU 1968b). Bombus (Thoracobombus) humilis subbaicalensis Vogt* Bombus humilis var, subbaicalensis Vogt 1911, Sber. Ges. naturf. Fr., Berlin, II: 54. Megabombus humilis subbaicalensis , Tkalcû 1974. Loc. No. 2: 1 w; Fig. 7. Differences from other homochromous Thoracobombus species in Far East were given by TKALCÚ (1974: 38). Coloration: (Large worker) Head black; area behind ocelli predominantly white with yellowish tint, marginally admixed with sparse black hairs; preoccipital ridge medially whitish, laterally with white and black hairs intermixed; frons above antennái sockets and supraclypeal area whitish, marginally with sparse admixture of black hairs. Mesosoma white with yellowish tint; scutum medially and posteriorly with white and black hairs rather irregularly intermixed in approximately equal amount, whitish hairs discally tinted pale brown; scutellum anteriorly admixed with sparse black hairs. Metasoma T^ yellowish white; Tg discally pale orange-brown, apical margin whitish; T3 discally yellowish white, apical margin white; T 4 as in Tg, but the apico-basal contrast dwindled; T5 basally black, apically yellowish white; Tg black; metasomal venter entirely white. Legs white, shorter bristles black. Specific distribution: Europe, Crimea, Turkey, Iran, Caucasus, Transcaucasus, S. Urals, N. Kazakhstan, Tien Shan, Baikal, N. Mongolia (after L0KEN op. cit.), NE China (Manchuria), Ussuri (cf. PANFILOV op. cit.), Korea. Bombus (Thoracobombus) opulentus Smith Recorded by SAKAGAMI mainly from S. Korea and NE. China and one from C, Korea (Hamhung); Fig. 16. Specific distribution: Korea, N.- and C. China (SAKAGAMI op. cit.). Bombus (Thoracobombus) pascuorum flavobarbatus Morawitz Loc. No. 4: 1 w; No. 5: 1 w; No. 6: 2 ww; Fig. 5. Obtained from NE alone, as in SAKAGAMI. He treated this form as a good species on account of a few differences from pascuorum in male genitalia (p. 294). Wide and possibly continuous distribution of pascuorum may favour the present treatment. Specific distribution: Europe, Turkey, Iran, N. Kazakhstan, Siberia including Kamtchatka, N. and C. China (Manchuria, Ganshu) (cf. L0KEN op. cit., ITO and SAKAGAMI op. cit.)
