FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLV. 2 1984 p. 109-125 Recorded and new species of Coleoptera (Staphylinidae, Paederinae) in Papua New Guinea By H. LAST (Received May 3, 1984) Abstract. This article deals with the Paederinae of Papua New Guinea collected by Dr. Richard HORNABROOK. Twelve genera are cited in which are 41 species and two varieties, three species have already been recorded and 38 are new to science. Pae- derus Fabricius, 1775 (1 species plus 1 variety), Astenus Stephens, 1832 (2 species), Stilicopsis Sachse, 1857 (9), Stllicoderus Sharp, 1889 (4), Rugllus Curtis, 1827 (1 species plus 1 variety), Dibelonetes Sahlberg, 1844 (4), Cephalochaetus Kraatz, 1859 (2), Lathroblum Gravenhorst, 1802 (6), Plnoblus MacLeay, 1873 (2), Medon Stephens, 1833 (1), Thlnocharis Kraatz, 1859 (1), Ochthephilum Stephens, 1829 (5). Outline drawings of the aedeagl where possible have been made to aid in the identification of species. Holotypes have been deposited in the collection of the British Museum (Natural History) and paratypes have been returned to Dr. HORNABROOK, and, where possible, others have been retained for my own collection. Paederus hornabrooki var. wabasensis var. n. This variety differs from the type form by having the head, pronotum and abdomen a dark blue-black, Instead of the pronotum red. The single specimen is a female, but in all other details It is identical with the holotype form. Holotype Ç unique. Near Wabas, on road to Komplan, 8,500 ft, Western Highlands, 29.xi. 1975 (R.W. HORNABROOK) in the Wellington Museum, New Zealand. Paederus busalminensis sp. n. This species is similar in shape to P. lacobsonl Bernh., but differs in having the pronotum
