FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK XLIV. 2. 1983 p. 5-8 Trichoptera of the Hungarian part of Lake Fertő (a faunistical and ecological treatise) By S. ANDRIKOVICS and S. ÚJHELYI (Received December 15, 1982) Abstract: Records of 31 species of trichopterans from the Hungarian part of Lake Fertő are given. Of these, Hydroptila dampft . Ulm. is new to the fauna of Hungary. The Department of Zoosystematics and Ecology of the Loránd Eötvös University, Budapest, operated a 25 W halogenous electric light in 1976 and 1977 in the Hungarian part of Lake Fertő, at the resort of Fertőrákos. Partly supported by funds from the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, it became possible in 1980 to use a 100 W light trap every night from the mains power supply, and this was suitable for catching insects as they emerged from the water of the characteristic plant associations of the lake. The light traps functioned in the three years of the study from April to October, with some intermittent breaks. Parallel with these investigations, the Plant Protection and Agrochemical Station of the Comitat Győr-SopTon also operated a light trap of 125 W at the Fertőrákos resort in order to study lepidopterans damaging reeds; later the source of light was changed to UV lamp. This lamp functioned intermittently in 1978, only during the autumn (between 1 October and 30 November) in 1979, but continuously from 1 March till 20 October in 1980. The lepidopterous material from the latter trap has already been published (MÉSZÁROS, SZABÓKY& RONKAY, 1981). They found that 13 out of the recorded 215 Lepidoptera species demage reed and bulrush. In the light traps and traps set to catch emerging Insects, besides Diptera and Lepidoptera the next most abundant animal group was Trichoptera. We wish to present the faunistical data on this order as based on some 5000 specimens identified in the material. We express our sincere gratitude to Dr. H. MALICKY, who afforded invaluable help in the identification of the species new to the fauna of Hungary, to Dr. Z. MÉSZÁROS for rendering the Trichoptera material from the tight trap of the Plant Protection Service available, and to the staff of the Fertőrákos Research Station for operating the light traps and taking care of the large quantity of insects in an exemplary way. List of species The systematic order and the nomeclature adopted in the 2nd edition of the Limnofauna Europae is followed here. Wherever necessary, the flight seasons are also given, and the ecological characteristics of the species also mentioned. Numbers of specimens are not given for the
