Melvertes indicus sp. n. (Heteroptera: Aradidae) By T. VÁSÁRHELYI (Received December 1, 1982) Abstract: Description of the third species in the Carventine genus Melvertes Vásárhelyi, 1976, on the basis of a female specimen is given. With 3 figures. Melvertes indicus sp.n. (Figs 1-3) Apterous, shiny auburn, covered by thin yellowish-brown incrustation. - Head 1.4 times as long as wide. Genae slightly surpassing clypeus, reaching about 1/3 of first antennái joint. Antenniferous tubercles conical, blunt. Antennái joint I clavate, joint II cylindrical, last two joints missing. Length of antenna! joints I and 11:0.76 and 0.52 mm, respectively. Eyes lenticular, slightly protruding. Postocular portion of head narrowing posteriorly, with a median longitudinal ridge and low, long, smooth tubercle on both sides. - Pronotum 2.3 times as wide as long. Fore border concave, continuous medially. Fore lobe narrower than hind one, latter forming tow ax-shaped lateral structures reaching above fore lobe and beyond fore border. Hind lobe disc with a deep, narrow median furrow bifurcating posteriorly. Hind border forming an obtuse angle medially, laterally straight. Meso- and metanotum completely fused medially, forming a longitudinal, smooth central plate with the first visible abdominal tergite. Roughened elevated structures on both sides of central plate, the border of the segments marked by furrows or punctures. Legs long, slender, covered by very thin incrustation, claws with setiform "arolia" . - Abdomen with a tergal plate formed by tergites III-VI. Median glabrous areas broad, impressed, mediolateral ones much smaller, anterior ones represented by some punctures only. Scent gland openings inconspicuous, situated on longitudinal ridge reaching across tergal plate. Connexival plates wide, II+III fused , others distinct. Posterolateral glabrous areas distinct, anterior ones situated on fore border, small, occasionally appearing as lighter coloration only. Tergite VII slightly raised, medially with an inverted Y-shaped elevation. Paratergites conical, not reaching tip of segment IX, their relation see on Fig. 3 (the ovipositor is extended, the position of segments VIII-IX is raised thus the shape of the tip of abdomen is misleading in Fig. 1). Spiracles gradually shifting more dorsally posteriorad, II-IV on flat tubercles, III closer to lateral border than II, IV lateral, V-VII on dorsolateral part of increasingly protruding conical tubercles, VIII subapical, dorsal on parate rgi te. Measurements: total length of body 6.35 mm, median length of head 1.16 mm, width of head across eyes 0.82 mm, median length of pronotum 0.64 mm, width of pronotum 1.48 mm, median length of meso-metanotum + abdominal tergites I and II 1.22 mm, width of mesonotum 1.91 mm, width of metanotum 2.24 mm, width of abdomen 2.78 mm.
