Holotype: female, India, West Bengal, Sukna, 150 m, 21.May, 1980, leg. Gy. TOPÁL, No. 384. Deposited in the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest. Dr. Gy. TOPAL, the excellent collector (who collected also the type species of the genus Melvertes ) found the specimen, while singling in a forest, during his trip to India in 1979-80. Melvertes indicus sp.n. differs from M. malaisi (Kormilev, 1963) in having much longer head, wider median longitudinal ridge on thorax but thorax more narrowing anteriorly; from M. sternalis Vásárhelyi, 1976 by the narrower head, the antennái tubercle being not pointed, the different shape of pronotal structures, the smaller lateral (spiracular) tubercles on segments V­VII, etc. Figs 1-3.
