FOLIA ENTOMOLOGICA HUNGARICA ROVARTANI KÖZLEMÉNYEK (SERIES NOVA) XXXI. 1. 1978 P. 181-187 Dermaptera from Tunisia with a checklist of the North-African species By H. STEINMANN (Received November 14, 1977) Abstract: The Dermaptera material collected by an expedition organized by the Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest is discussed. A systematic survey of the Dermaptera fauna of the North African states belonging to the Palaearctic region, together with the description of a new species: Aborolabis mordax sp. n. are given. The Dermaptera fauna of the North-African states belonging to the Palaearctic region is rather inadequately known. This region lying between the Mediterranean'Sea and the Sahara Desert is characteristically sandy, stony and dry, thus the Dermaptera preferring moist, humid biotopes occur only is smaller, isolated spots. From Morocco to Egypt accordingly scarcely anything is known of this fauna since no extensive collectings took place, consequently rendering the literature rather poor in this respect. In the subsequent part besides publishing the identified earwig material from Tunisia I compiled a list of species ascertained for the Palaearctic African territory complete with their bibliographical and catalogue data. Family CARCINOPHORIDAE Popham, 1965 A relatively large family, the species usually having a restricted distribution. The taxonomy is based on the male genitalia, consequently it is usually impossible to name isolated females with certaintly. Three genera and six species recorded from North Africa. Anisolabis maritima (Géné) 18 32 Forficula maritima Gené, Ann. Soc. Nat. Regn. Lomb. Vénet, Padova, 2: 224. Terra typica: Europe (Type male: unknown locality).
