Our collecting altes in the neighbourhood of Pyongyan /localltiea first visited by the aecond expedition/ Chang-lyong aan f /Hoe 168-173/ «. - Thia mountainoua region some 400-600-800 m a. 8.1. Ilea about 15 km E of Sagam and 50 km H of Pyongyan. The characteriatically augar-loaf like hilla are akirted at the sloping foot with secondary vegetation mostly weeds and Acacia. Prom 200-300 m up chestnut /Castanea aativa/ + forests become dominant* According to our opinion not only here but generally throughout Korea on of the climax foreat communities is the frequently encountered cheatnut foreata. The sporadically occurring beautiful forests at places are degenerated by unwiae human activitiea. Thia partly givea an anawer to the invaaion of Acacia grovea. Primarily Hymenoptera /Apoidea/ hare been collected by aingling on the flowering buahea of a frequent Leapedeza bicolor /Leguminoaae/. Guk-aan-bong /Hoa 238-241/ . - Ham-po town is a port to the Yellow Sea /"Western Sea™ according to local usage/ situated aome 40 km SW of Pyongyan. The Guk-aan-bong displaying a beautiful mountainous scenery is aome 10 km off HE of the town. Ita average height ia 500-600 m„ We collected in the vicinity of the Trade Union health reaort, built in a mixed chestnut and pine /Pinus denaiflora/ forest, here we erected first of all our Malaise trap and for some 3-3.5 hours collected by various methods, including sweeping, singling and beating. The weather was fine, the copse, mainly of oak /Quercus dentata/ especially at scrub level, had a good impression on us still it proved to be one of the poorest of collecting sites on the Guk-san-bong . The answer may be found perhaps in the free use of DDT all over the place. All the plants collected by us have been identified by Dr, V. CSAPODY and Dr„ Zs.DEBRECZY /Department of Botany, Hungarian Natural History Museum, Budapest/ for which we would like to express our most sincere gratitude to her.
