Lyong-ak san /HOB 154-155. 158-161. 222-224/ . - The 400-500 m high mountainous region Ilea W of Pyongyan. We viaited two aitea in four oooasions, which lie 14 and 25 km from the capital.Collectings were done in a pine forest /Pinus densiflora/ mixed with a little oak /Querous dentata/ and Styrax obassia, the underwood dominated by a grass species /Baldlugera sp./. It was a warm and sunny day. Still hardly anything was captured even sweeping resulted only in a few specimens. The excessive uae of DDT waa eapecially notable in thia district. Around many treea small heapa of the chemical waa seen, no wonder why we were unable to catch anything like lnaecta. On the other hand, the collecting aite aituated 25 km of Pyongyan ia oonaidered by ua aa aecond beat after Za-mo aan /aee later/ in the neighbourhood of the capital. The mountain and hilla almoat wholly encircle a small baain with a aingle communication route in the form of a foot-path reaching it from the north. The weather waa fine during our atay, although ahort ahowera freahened the vegetation in the firat afternoon /mainly butterfliea, dragonfliea and arachnida have been aingled/, in the next two daya we were again to collect in sparkling aunahine. The area of aome hectarea haa been partly cultivated and partly uaed for grazing. The hilla and mountaina were covered by oak foreata /Quercua dentata/ of varioua age and by cheatnut /Caatanea crenata/ grovea, the latter waa mottled here and there with pinea /Pinua denaif lora/Underwood variable, aof t-atemmed planta among othera 3-4 labiate apeciea on which plenty of Apoidea /e.g. Anthophora ap./have been aingled. The graaaea were in dominance, expecially a Baldingera ap. By sweeping we were able to secure a wide variety of apeciea but of a low individual number. The oak wood of one of the mountain slopes has recently been felled. It was worthwhile to note /similar experiences have been gained in Hungary/ that the underwood and the secondary vegetation in the place of the clear-felling yielded a rather variable selection of species and at the same time, the difference in species was also striking. Besides sweeping we have placed 30 soil traps made of plastic into the soil filled with salted beer. The traps after 3 weeks surrendered many carabids /e.g. Coptolabrus sp./. In the edge of the cultivated part of the
