28. Kwadaso: Ashanti region N. 6.42, V. 1.39, Alt.: 850 ft (259 m). Semideciduous forest zone. Kwadaso, on the western outskirts of Kumasi is the headquarters of the Crops Research Institute. The station is surrounded by secondary bush, partly in the form of degraded forests, partly as abandoned agricultural land. Besides the regular collections on the cultivated plants, some collections originate from the surrounding bush (nettings, siftings, Berlese samples, etc). Since 2nd February 1969 two light traps have been operated regularly on the station, not considering in this place the earlier light collections which yielded a considerable part of the Institute's collections. One light trap has been erected on the boundary between an extensive area under annual crops (maize, cassava, ground nut, kenaf, etc) and a secondary forest. This trap is operated on a weekly rotation system with UV, mercury vapour, and mixed quartz bulbs. The other trap, in the second floor corridor of the Entomology section, has a good outlook over the Citrus orchard, with a secondary forest beyond. Its purpose is to collect the larger Lepidoptera in good condition (they are collected with a cyanid jar from the walls) and it is operated at intervals, according to the mounting work. 29. Mampong scarp: Ashanti region N. 7.00, W. 1.22, Alt.: 1,200-1,938 ft (366-591 m). Semideciduous forest region. The northern scarp of the Ashanti upland is comparatively high in the Mampong sector. The forests in the valleys and on the hillsides are mostly planted with cocoa, but the steeper slopes have preserved the original forest vegetation. Collections have been made in these areas by netting, beating, and singling on fallen trees. 30. Nakpanduri: Northern region N. 10.38, W. 0.12, Alt.: 1,376 ft (419 m).
